The CASA Youth group is in full swing for the 2023/24 school year! We are excited to announce that the Coalition's affiliation with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, to assist in the ongoing management of our teen volunteers, is still going strong. The licensed clinical social workers at LICADD have proven to be well equipped to continue leading our youth in their efforts to act as positive peer leaders against the use of substances.
Meetings are held every other Tuesday, primarily on zoom, and our 10 member group is enthusiastically planning their initiatives for the year, including creating content for the north shore casa youth Instagram page. If your teen is interested in joining, simply have them send an email to [email protected].
Red Ribbon Week 2022
Our Youth Group took an active role in getting a drug-free message out to their peers. Every morning, the students took over the morning announcements, sharing facts about alcohol, marijuana, vaping, resources for help and inspirations on how to Celebrate Life Drug Free. On Monday and Friday, the youth set up an interactive table for their peers, offering prizes to those students who could correctly answer a few questions regarding substances. The CASA Youth members also conducted an anonymous peer survey to help steer their efforts for the remainder of the year. LICADD was on hand all week to lead Middle and High Schoolers in prevention talks.
As we do annually, NS-CASA conducted a middle and high school contest, asking participants to creatively share with us how they Celebrate Life Drug Free. We are excited to see what our amazing students come up with this year. Check out the Middle School winners below! We will be announcing our High School winners in January.

Project Sticker Shock
Project Sticker Shock took place on Saturday December 12, 2020. The event's goal was preventing underage youth from obtaining alcohol from adults 21 or older. This program encourages partnership between community organizations, youth, retail establishments, law enforcement, media, and other community members. During our event, participants placed stickers and window clings that warn about the legal consequences for providing alcohol to underage youth on cases and coolers of alcohol at local retailers. These stickers were developed and designed by our North Shore High School juniors and seniors that volunteered to support this initiative.
A special thanks to our students!
