Getting our community involved in solving the issue of youth substance use is key to achieving our mission! NS-CASA focuses on strengthening protective factors for our kids as well as reducing risk factors. Community engagement in supporting our kids’ overall wellness is critical to our collective success!
Disconnect to Reconnect
While many of us enjoy staying connected on social media, excessive use can fuel feelings of anxiety, depression, isolation, and FOMO. Excessive use of social media and screens in general can have addictive qualities that can be harmful to teen development. CASA knows that fostering meaningful connections with others, in particular our famlily members, is key to feeling good. That’s why, on the heals of our screening of “Screenagers” we encouraged families to DISCONNECT to RECONNECT. Participating restaurants made phone bags available at restaurants for a full week so that parents and kids could enjoy an uninterrupted meal out! |
2018 Day of Wellness
CASA made sure that the entire NS Community knew that we were here and were focused on the task of reducing youth substance use. In September 2018 the Coalition brought hundreds of parents and kids together to celebrate wellness through basketball tournaments, martial arts classes, yoga and HIIT fitness all against the backdrop of the music of Antigone Rising. At the same time, we honored those who have lost so much to substance use, listened to speakers and government representatives, and got educated on the dangers of substance use. |
