The Power of a Coalition.
- A community coalition with active participation, armed with facts and sharing a common voice can fundamentally change the outcomes for our youth!
- We are a community dedicated to reducing youth substance use and abuse and supporting the wellness of our kids.
- Our vision is to have a community in which our residents, and particularly our youth, make healthy choices and avoid misusing or abusing drugs and alcohol.
- Multi-sector community-based coalitions have been shown effective in preventing and treating substance misuse and substance use disorders.
- Coalitions can work to change community-level risk and protective factors and achieve community- wide reductions in substance use by implementing proven prevention strategies.
Our Story
We Are CASA
In 2017, the increase of alcohol and marijuana use in our youth populations coupled with a spike in the number of post-graduation deaths due to opioid use, led to the resurrection of the Coalition for a Drug Free North Shore Inc., which had operated sporadically between 2010-2014. Recognizing the severity of the problem we faced, the North Shore Coalition Against Substance Abuse (“NS-CASA”) was formed in April 2017 as a 501.c.3 not-for-profit organization.
NS-CASA, is a private, volunteer, non-profit organization which is made up of different sectors of the community including parents, the business community, media, school, youth and substance abuse professionals. Our Board of Directors works closely with the North Shore School District to aid in their efforts to bring quality substance use education to our youth, while also putting together prevention events for the community outside of the school. We create community wide initiatives to help support the wellness of our youth and highlight actions that parents can take to be a part of the solution of youth substance use and abuse.
Knowing that the strength of our organization is directly tied to the participation and support of its members – we ask the North Shore Community to share in declaration that We Are CASA!

Youth
The CASA Youth group is in full swing for the 2023/24 school year! We are excited to announce that the Coalition's affiliation with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, to assist in the ongoing management of our teen volunteers, is still going strong. The licensed clinical social workers at LICADD have proven to be well equipped to continue leading our youth in their efforts to act as positive peer leaders against the use of substances.
Meetings are held every other Tuesday, primarily on zoom, and our 10 member group is enthusiastically planning their initiatives for the year, including creating content for the north shore casa youth Instagram page. If your teen is interested in joining, simply have them send an email to [email protected].
